The yearly tradition of going to the Outerbanks of North Carolina lives on. A couple of weeks ago we made the trek all the way from Texas to North Carolina for a week of fun in the sun with new and old friends. We had decided to drive up since we would have way too much stuff to bring on the airplane (beach chairs, umbrellas, beach toys, etc.) and because Mike prefers to drive anyway. Unfortunately Mike had to head up a week early for work, so James and I had to fly up to meet him. (Note to self: Do not fly alone with a toddler EVER again!) After an eventful flight with a toddler (atleast I was in business class where the free wine was flowing ;-)) we got up to Suffolk, VA and the next morning we headed down to Kill Devil Hills, NC. We stayed in a great house right on the beach with 5 other couples and their children. There were a total of 25 people (12 adults, 2 teenagers (the babysitters) and 11 children)...I know it's a lot, but luckily the house we got had 12 bedrooms, so there was more than enough room. Despite Mike having to work a large chunk of our trip, it was a great time. The weather was sunny with highs in the 80's all week with the exception of our last day. And although it was hectic at times (there were 11 young children in the house), I had a wonderful time seeing old friends and meeting new ones. Now that we are living in Texas I don't know that we'll be able to continue going on this trip, which makes me sad, but I am glad that we were able to go at least one last time.
