Last week James had his first swim lesson with the San Antonio Swim Academy. These are the first lessons he has had since the mommy and me class we took before he was 2. We usually just work with him ourselves in my parent's pool, but I received a free summer session from the silent auction at James' school so I figured why not. It will probably be better for him to have more structured lessons anyway. He can currently swim on his own with the assistance of a swim noodle, but he doesn't really ever dunk his head under water, so I am hopeful that by the end of the summer he will be able to swim without the assistance of the noodle and lose the fear of going under the water.
The first class was really just an introduction to the pool and swim instructor. They blew bubbles in the water, crawled along the side of the pool, floated on their backs and stomachs, and jumped in from the side of the pool. James really enjoyed himself and if these lessons are a success I may continue on with them.

I love the shark shirt! He will be swimming like a shark soon, won't he? It's so nice to see that you have found a swim program that you enjoy. What matters most is that your son learns to swim and feels comfortable in the water. Swimming skills will be with him throughout his entire life, and so will his respect for the water - as long as he has an instructor who teaches him the importance of water safety and he has a good time. Thanks for sharing this story.
